Whitley Peanut Factory Inc., a producer and retailer of Virginia peanuts since 1992, will invest nearly $530,000 to expand its operation in Gloucester County.
The expansion will allow Whitley’s Peanut to increase production, improve operational efficiency and achieve an even higher level of food safety certification. Five new jobs will be created, and the company will increase its annual purchases of Virginia-grown peanuts by 36 percent to more than 600,000 pounds over the next three years, Gov. Ralph Northam’s office said.
In addition to a large wholesale and mail-order business, Whitley’s Peanut Factory has three retail locations — one in western Henrico County that opened last year, in Gloucester County and in Williamsburg.
Northam approved a $20,000 grant from the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund to assist with the project, which Gloucester County will match with local funds.
