The Fraunhofer Institute in Karlsruhe is working on a series of technical innovations that could fundamentally change sorting. One of these is the use of radar technology for sorting food – it could become a useful method, especially for dried fruit. The advantages: Products would probably no longer have to be sorted in free fall. The researchers are also working on data from sorting plants. The new technologies could significantly change the work for nuts, dried fruits and snacks. We have spoken to the scientists who are driving the projects.
