Pecans are a very special items for business: Trees take extremely long to become profitable, a large part of the world population has never heard of pecans and revenues have become much more volatile – the pecan business requires patience and stubbornness. Nevertheless global production is about to double. The Clipper talked to Bruce Caris, who joined the pecan industry in 2000 and currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for the Green Valley Pecan Company. During his time in the industry, he has served as a Board Member and Chair of the National Pecan Shellers Association and is currently the Vice Chairman of the American Pecan Council.
The Clipper: For a long time the pecan business used to be a growing, but rather quiet business without many surprises. Is this changing?
